Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating his 69th birthday in his home state of Gujarat.

On Tuesday morning he visited the Sardar Sarovar Dam and Khalvani eco-tourism site in Kevadia in Narmada district.

Ahead of his visit, the dam was illuminated with bright coloured lighting on Monday night.

Gujarat Government is celebrating ‘Namami Devi Narmade Mahotsav’ at over 1000 places across the state to mark the crossing of 138-m water level, it’s uppermost limit, in Sardar Sarovar dam on September 17.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had invited the Prime Minister at the main event on Tuesday.

At the Butterfly Garden in Kevadiya, PM Modi also released some butterflies.

After visiting the dam site, PM Modi will also address a gathering. He would inspect some ongoing developmental projects near the dam and at the ‘Statue of Unity’.

A platform has been erected at the ‘View Point-3’ of the dam under a waterproof dome from where Modi will address a gathering, local media reports suggest.

Before landing in Kevadia, PM Modi also shot a video of the ‘Statue of Unity’ from his chopper and posted on Twitter.

The prime minister is also expected to visit Lord Dattatreya Temple at Garudeshwar village near Kevadiya.

The dam area is decorated with flowers and several arrangements were being made till late night to welcome PM Modi at the dam site.

In the afternoon, PM Modi will meet his 95-year-old mother Hiraben in Gandhinagar to seek her blessings.

People from Ahmedabad gave a warm welcome to PM Modi on his arrival in the city on Monday night.

He also acknowledged his supporters and waved back to them waiting outside the airport cheering for him.

Earlier this week on Thursday, the BJP decided to celebrate PM Modi’s birthday by organising “Sewa Saptah” from September 14 to 20.
