Amid the protests over the amended Citizenship Act 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address BJP’s Mega rally ahead of Delhi polls scheduled for the upcoming year.
About 2 lakh people are expected to attend the rally at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi today. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for PM Modi’s rally today at the venue which is a little away from Daryaganj, where the protests over CAA turned violent very recently. “Twenty DCP-rank officials will be there. As many as 1,000 personnel from local police, anti-drone teams and NSG commandos will be there. The entire area around the venue will be sanitised (movement of locals will be restricted, shops will be closed and security personnel will be deployed),” the official said.
Checking of vehicles has been initiated in the areas to ensure that ‘unscrupulous’ elements do not enter the national capital to create disturbances in the rally.
In a statement, senior BJP leader Vijay Goel said preparations for the ‘dhanyawad rally’, which is being organised to thank PM Modi for giving ownership rights to 40 lakh residents of 1,731 unauthorised colonies, are in full swing. A total of 11 lakh signatures by residents of unauthorised colonies will be handed over to the PM as a thank you gesture, he said.
PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the mega rally around 12:45 pm. PM Modi is expected to bring up the CAA issue in his speech, given the nationwide protests against the amendment in the Act.
