The Andhra Pradesh government has asked the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to vacate his riverfront house located on the banks of Krishna river in state’s capital Amravati.

Citing the flood situation in the area, the YSR Congress-led on Saturday issued a notice to Chandrababu Naidu to vacate his official accommodation at Undavalli in Amaravati on the bank of river Krishna. The notice, issued in Telugu, stated, “You are advised to vacate the premises urgently as water will enter.”

The Tedapalli village revenue officer (VRO) who served the notice to Chandrababu Naidu said that the house situated on the bank of the river has to be evacuated immediately due to the prevailing flood situation. According to the officer, the floodwaters entered the banana plantation next to the house of Chandrababu Naidu and also submerged neighboring houses.

The tehsildar also stated that nearly one lakh cusecs of water was set to be released by dams upstream of river Krishna on Saturday, which could cause more flooding at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada and water would enter Naidu’s house.

The notice also stated that besides other violations of River Conservation Act, environment, green tribunal laws and bylaws of the capital region master plan, the house did not maintain the maximum flood level (MFL) of 22.6 m and was constructed at 19m, which is prone to submergence.

The notice was received by Naidu’s security personnel who informed him as he is staying in his Hyderabad’s residence since last week.

However, TDP has alleged that this is a move by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to force him out of his bungalow which is also known as Lingamaneni guesthouse.

TDP workers caught three persons for using the drone cameras and handed them over to police. The TDP workers also staged a ‘dharna’ on river-bank road alleging that police were backing the culprits.

The government, however, says it had deployed drone cameras to capture images of the surging flood in the river, to study its impact along the river-bank.

When questioned by TDP workers that why such notice has been issued to Naidu only, the tehsildar Srinivasulu Reddy said that other buildings and guesthouses on the river bank will also be given such notices.

Meanwhile, the water level at Prakasham barrage has turned threatening following which the Collector has issued orders to stop traffic on this bridge as an immediate measure.
