Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had to undergo frisking at Gannavaram Airport on Friday.
Now the leader of the opposition, Naidu was also denied VIP access to the aircraft. He was not allowed to reach the aircraft in VIP vehicle and had to travel in the bus along with common passengers.
The security staff at the airport reportedly didn’t allow his convoy up to the aircraft. Naidu was asked to get off and undergo the regular process of checking.
A security guard was seen frisking Naidu at the security entrance.
The incident drew a strong reaction from Telugu Desam Party, which alleged that BJP and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) were resorting to witch-hunting.
TDP leader and former state Home Minister Chinna Rajappa said the attitude of authorities was not only insulting but they also compromised on Naidu’s security as he enjoys “Z plus’ category security.
He said Naidu never had to face this situation though he was in opposition for many years.
He demanded the central and state governments ensure proper security to Naidu.
Remember, in the recently concluded Assembly elections Naidu’s TDP was reduced to 23 from 126 in 2014. The state has 175 assembly seats.
Last year, Naidu left the BJP led National Democratic Alliance protesting against non-compliance of special status category demand. Ironically, the demand was promised by the BJP in the last general elections.
Naidu led nationwide protests for not fulfilling the promise. His MPs staged daily protests at the Parliament, mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Now, CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is also pressing the centre for the special category demand. He has met PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the same.
