Red alert was issued at the Chennai International Airport after receiving a bomb threat call early Friday morning. Security was intensified following the bomb threats.
New Delhi Airport control reportedly received a phone call that a bomb threat is looming large at the Chennai International Airport. According to reports of The Hindu, the caller said that a woman passenger travelling from Chennai Airport to Saudi Arabia was carrying explosive substance.
When the authorities traced the location of the caller, it was known that the call had been made from Salem District of Tamil Nadu. However, the identity of the caller is not yet established.
Security was already increased at the airport keeping in view the Independence Day celebrations next week. The Airport authorities also advised the passengers to arrive early as extensive security checks have been initiated. Hightened bag-checking procedures have been put in place.
Earlier, in May also, a bomb threat alert was sounded in the Chennai International Airport but was later found to be a hoax call.
