A final year IT student of SRM University in Chennai committed suicide on Monday morning after jumping from his college building.
The deceased identified as S Raghavan, belonging to Kanyakumari district, jumped off from one of the floors of a 15-storey block, police said.
“Going by the CCTV footages it looks like the student jumped off from the second floor. But the visuals are not clear and hence we are further looking into it,” a police officer of Maraimalai Nagar station told Mirror.
“He was seen crashing down ripping the branches of a tree in the process while the students ran all around the place,” he added.
However, the reason for taking the extreme step is not yet known, but what is clear is that he was demoralized and frustrated over not getting placement.
This is the third suicide to be reported within a few months from the university campus at Kattankulathur, near Chennai. In May, a student Aneesh Choudary (19), belonging to Jharkhand also committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the hostel.
Yet another student, Anupriya (23), studying biomedical engineering and hailing from Tiruvallur district, took her life by jumping from the 10th floor of the women’s hostel. In a suicide note recovered from her room, she had termed her parents as “regressive”.
