In a bizzare incident, college students in Karnataka were made to sit in the exam hall with their heads inside the cartons which had a window near the eyes to prevent them from cheating in the exams.
The Bhagat Pre-University College in Haveri district drew severe criticism for the way they dealt with the problem of cheating in exams by making the students wear the carton boxes.
The education department Karnataka took notice of the incident and issued a notice to the institute. The department said it will launch a probe into the incident and take necessary disciplinary action against the management.
The Education Minister of Karnataka termed it totally ‘unacceptable and humiliating’. He told that was not the way to deal with preventing malpractices during exams.
Pictures of students with carton boxes on their heads went viral on social media which drew mixed reactions from various sections of people. While some criticized the move, some others mocked the institute for the ‘out of the box’ idea.
However, the Director of the college told media that the management had decided to implement this idea to address the malpractices in exam hall. He added that it was an experiment and that the management had sought prior consent of the students before implementing it.
