Days after the Income Tax Department conducted raids at nearly 30 locations linked to senior Congress leader and former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, his assistant Ramesh was found dead on Saturday morning.
Ramesh was found hanging from a tree at the Jnana Bharathi University. Police reportedly recovered a suicide note from a car that was parked nearby. Forensic teams were summoned to collect the evidences that would help in investigation.
Ramesh’s family had filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police. It is yet to be ascertained whether the IT officials raided his residence or no as part of the raids conducted as various locations connected to G Parameshwara.
It is learnt from the close aides of Ramesh that he was embarrassed when his name surfaced in the media that he was questioned in the case.
G Parameshwara expressed grief on the death of his assistant and offered condolences to the family. The Congress leader said that Ramesh was with him during the IT raids and that he had told him not to worry.
“I don’t know why he had committed suicide. What happened is very unfortunate. He was a very soft spoken man” said Parameshwara.
Ramesh reportedly hails from Mandya district in Karnataka and had been working with the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee before working as Parameshwara’s assistant.
Congress leadership however lashed out at the ruling BJP for targeting the leaders of the opposition and using the institutions of the state like to suppress dissent.
Around 80 officials along with police personnel conducted raids at nearly 30 locations in Karnataka. The IT department has allegedly found some irregularities in the conduct of NEET examination particularly in two medical colleges run by a trust in Tumkur.
