Bengaluru may soon be home to a new dog park. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon declare Domlur park as the official dog park. This comes after for more than a year, several pet owners in the city have been bringing their dogs to the Domlur park.

The park is open for 24 hours throughout the year, making it an ideal place for dog lovers, as there are no restrictions on the time.

Talking to the media, BBMP Special Commissioner D Randeep said, “I have received an application of the residents to declare it as a dog park. I will put the proposal before the Commissioner (N Manjunath Prasad). We already have exclusive parks for senior citizens and children. Since the dog park already exists, it is only a matter of formalizing it. We can even see if this can be replicated in other parts of the city.”

With Ugly Indians group and few Domlur residents efforts, the area, which had once been a garbage dumping site, was transformed into a park. The group and the residents approached the local corporator, Lakshiminarayan C R to convert the same into one such dog park. The park was formerly just a vacant space between a service road and HAL Airport road, which was filled with a heap of garbage.

The corporator further added that the vast space, spread over 8,000 square feet, would soon be fenced and improved with all amenities, including a jumping track for dogs.

Animal rights activist VK Elango said, “He appreciated our initiative and pledged to help us. We have not appointed anyone to clean the park. Dog owners clear the faeces and drop it in the drop-pit. We remove dry leaves from the park once a month,” said.

However, it is to be noted that aggressive dogs and dogs that are yet to be fully vaccinated will not be allowed into the park as per the rules set forth by the citizens of Domlur.
