A minor girl was allegedly raped by six men as she went out to celebrate her birthday with her male friend in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The 11th standard student had gone to a park with her friend on November 26 to celebrate her birthday. While returning home at around 9 PM a gang of six men, posing as policemen stopped the duo and started questioning them.
The police said that the gang took the boy to an isolated place near the park and made him undress. Later the two men approached the girl and asked her to undress. When she refused, they raped her in front of her friend. The other members were videographing the assault.
The girl stayed at her friend’s house on the night of the incident and later revealed the incident to her mother the next day.
They lodged a complaint at the Coimbatore city All-Women police station.
Four of the accused have been arrested by the police on November 30. They were booked under various sections of the POCSO Act, 354 (assault on a woman to outrage her modesty) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.
The arrested have been identified as T Ragul (21), R Prakash (22), Karthikeyan (28) and S Narayanamoorthy (30).
The accused were produced before a Mahila Court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Inspector R Prabha Devi said that a special team has been formed to nab the other two prime suspects of the rape including the gang leader.
