Reeta Lankalingam, joint managing director of Lanson Toyota, was found dead at her residence in Nungambakkam, Chennai on Thursday morning. She allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself.
Her husband Lankalingam Murugesu is the chairman of Lanson Group, a well-known $100 million Toyota dealership in Tamil Nadu with showrooms and service centres spread across the state.
Police said Reeta stayed at a luxury hotel in the city on Wednesday night and returned to her house in Nungambakkam in the early hours of Thursday.
Teynampet assistant commissioner V Muthuvel Pandi told reporters:
“There are three maids in the house. As Reeta did not come out for breakfast on Thursday morning and did not respond to the knocks on her bedroom door, the maids informed supervisor Yesupatham.”
Reportedly, Yesupatham broke into the bedroom and found Reeta hanging from the ceiling. The police were informed and the body was sent for post-mortem at Kilpauk Government Hospital. No suicide note could be found, police said.
A case has been registered under section 174 (Investigation of Unnatural Death) of the IPC.
Her husband Murugesu was not in town on Wednesday and only came to know of the news on his return on Thursday.
Besides Murugesu, Reeta is survived by her two children — a son and a daughter.
