A 30-member team of IIT Madras students, Avishkar Hyperloop, has cleared the final round of SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition 2019.

The team is the first and only Indian team to qualify for the competition.  The students will represent India at the SpaceX Headquarters in Los Angeles in July 2019.

The SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition requires participants to build a subscale prototype transport vehicle to demonstrate the technical feasibility of various aspects of the Hyperloop* concept.

SpaceX announced the Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2015 to design and build high-speed Hyperloop Pods. For this competition, student teams from around the country and world came together for a Design Weekend in January 2016 to share their Pod designs.

SpaceX was founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk in 2002. The American Company is indulged in aerospace manufacturing and spacecraft transportation services.

SpaceX is revolutionizing terrestrial transportation through its Hyperloop services. The company currently provides these services to innovators and universities across the world interested in high-speed transportation technology and solutions.

The Hyperloop system built by SpaceX at its headquarters in Hawthorne, California, is approximately one mile in length with a six foot outer diameter.

*What is Hyperloop?
Hyperloop is proposed by billionaire industrialist Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla. A hyperloop is a sealed tube or system of tubes through which a pod may travel free of air resistance or friction conveying people or objects at high speed while being very efficient. If successful, hyperloop can be used as a mode of passenger and/or freight transportation.
