Days after Telangana Woman Forest officer Anitha was thrashed in Sarasala village by the local MLA’s brother and former ZPTC Chairman Krishna Rao, a case was booked on the officer under SC,ST(Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The attackers alleged that the Forest Range Officer had used abusive language referring to the caste of the village men.
A village resident Nayini Saroja had lodged a complaint with the Kagaznagar police alleged that the Forest department officer had abused them with their caste name. 15 others along with Anitha were booked.
After the brutal attack in which Anitha suffered a fracture in her right hand, she received armed protection at her residence as she claimed she fears for her life after the incident.
A team lead by Forest Officer Anitha, along with her staff, went to Sarsala forest village in Sirpur Kagaznagar block to plant saplings in the 20 acre land for Harita Haaram, a flagship afforestation programme of Telangana government.
A video of the incident shows village men led by Koneru Krishna brother of Sripur MLA Koneru Konnappa attacked the forest officials on duty with sticks.
The incident received huge backlash from both central and state governments. Following the incident Krishna Rao was forced to resign as ZPTC chairman and a case of criminal conspiracy was booked under various sections of the IPC.
The government took serious note of the attack on the officer and directed the district police to book all the accused under stringent sections of the forest laws and the Indian Penal Code.
Telangana DGP has suspended DSP Kagaznagar & Inspector Kagaznagar for inaction in the assault incident. The 30 cops stood helpless.
