The Telangana government on Friday proposed to introduce unemployment pension allowance of Rs 3,016 per month to the eligible.
The announcement came in while presenting the vote-on-account budget for 2019-20 in the legislative assembly. The new pension scheme is under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Shyam Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who also holds the finance portfolio, said, “The details of the scheme are being worked out.”
There are over 40 lakh workers in the city and over one crore workers across the state. This consists of domestic workers, vendors, daily wage labourers, artisans, brick kiln workers, construction workers and ragpickers.
“It is mandatory for every worker to submit a photocopy of his/her Aadhaar card, savings/ Jan Dhan account number (with IFSC code) and mobile number,” said E Gangadhar, Joint Commissioner of Labour, Hyderabad-Secunderabad.
Workers aged between 18 and 40 years, whose income is less than Rs 15,000 per month are eligible for the allowance.
The ‘Aasara’ pensions cover the aged, widows, single women, beedi workers, filariasis patients, handloom workers and toddy-tappers. The pension dispersal for the beneficiaries will start on attaining the age of 60 years.
The government proposed the increased from Rs 1,000 per month to Rs 2,016 to redeem the party’s election promise.
“For differently-abled persons, I propose to increase their monthly pension from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,016,” the Chief Minister said.
The government also announced ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh each for the martyred CRPF soldiers. Over 40 jawans lost their lives in Pulwama terror attack on February 14.
