Tamilisai Soundararaja, State BJP President of Tamil Nadu has now been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana. Tamilisai Soundararajan will replace ESL Narsimhan who served as the Governor of Telangana since bifurcation in 2014.
Tamilisai Soundarajan is the first woman Governor to be appointed from Tamil Nadu. She was appointed as Tamil Nadu state BJP president in 2014.
In the latest rejig of Governors, the President of India has made the following appointments in five states. Shri Kalraj Mishra, Governor of Himachal Pradesh is transferred and appointed as Governor of Rajasthan, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari as Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Arif Mohammed Khan as Governor of Kerala and Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana.
Bandaru Dattatreya is a senior BJP leader from Telangana and served as a Union Minister in the BJP government in its previous term.
Mahmood Ali, Telangana Dy CM and Home Minister refused to comment on the latest appointment and told India Ahead News reporter “The appointment of the Governor is the prerogative of the central government. They can appoint the governor following the due process.”
However, K Krishna Sagar Rao, State BJP chief spokesperson welcomed the move. He said “I Congratulate Tamilsai on elevation as Telangana Governor. Although she has never been an elected representative, she has been a party loyalist for years and it’s a reward now that she has been entrusted the responsibility to safeguard constitutional values.”
“This has been a norm that a senior party leader is appointed as the governor. This has been the practice for last 72 years, we are doing nothing different,” he added.
