French Striker Antoine Griezmann on Monday insisted that he is feeling excited and can’t wait to dawn Barcelona’s jersey for the first time on the pitch.
The World Cup winner joined Barca from Atletico Madrid earlier this month for an estimated fee of 120 million euros ($135 million). However, Atletico thought that Barcelona should’ve paid more for him.
Since then, there has been tension around the club and Griezmann wants to start fresh and is fully committed. Atletico even accused Griezmann and Barcelona of ‘Disrespect’. Los Blancos are currently planning to take the matter to FIFA.
“I wish Atletico players all the best of luck and I am focused on giving my all so that Barca will deliver good results. I am focused on fitting in among the Barcelona players. My heart is here with them,” he said.
Griezmann said that he has a strong relationship with Atleti manager Diego Simeone.
Barcelona faces Chelsea on Tuesday in Japan for their first pre-season match followed by a game against J-League outfit, Vissel Kobe.
Antoine Griezmann also confessed that he cannot wait to play and train alongside Lionel Messi. The Argentine sensation was given an extended break due to Copa America involvements.
“I like to be around people and to enjoy their company and I’m sure that we’ll get on really well,” said Griezmann after being asked whether he foresaw any problems in his relationship with Messi.
He also said Messi hasn’t called him yet but Luis Suarez did call him after his move was confirmed.
“Messi hasn’t called me yet, but Luis Suarez congratulated me and welcomed me.
“The group has welcomed me and I am happy to share a dressing room with them and hopefully, I can help in the best way possible.”
Messi is expected to return in a week’s time and it’s likely that he and Griezmann will start the game for the first time on August 4 against Arsenal.
