Olympique Lyonnais came from a goal down to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London on Sunday.
Moussa Dembele scored a second-half brace off the bench to secure a 2-1 in the final of Emirates Cup.
Arsenal took the lead in the first half through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international coolly directed the ball into the net after Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s driven cross.
Arsenal was the better team in the first and had several chances to increase their advantage, but couldn’t do so.
Lyon couldn’t contain their opponents in the first 45 and couldn’t cause any trouble to the Gunners’ backline.
The Olympians made an array of substitutions before the start of second half, including game changer Dembele.
Houssem Aouar also came after the break and started to dictate the game.
Memphis Depay also started to threaten and it soon inflicted. He whipped a cross inside the box and Dembele rose the highest to head home Lyon’s equaliser.
9 minutes later, Lyon took the lead and turn the game on his head. Aouar played Dembele through and the ex-Fulham striker made no mistake slotting past Berd Leno in the Arsenal goal.
Mustafi was once again the culprit as he has been on several occasions previously.
Moments before Dembele’s second, Arsenal had a goal ruled out for off-side after Gabriel Martinelli had tapped in from close range.
Youngster Eddie Nketiah had a decent chance to grab the qualiser but failed to do so.
For Lyon, this was their first win in pre-season, after defeat against Servette and Genoa. The Olympians still have a couple of pre-season games before their Ligue 1 opener against Monaco on August 10th.
Dani Ceballos’ Arsenal debut
Arsenal’s summer signing Dani Ceballos came on later on in the second half for 20 minutes cameo. The Spaniard, who arrived on loan from Real Madrid for a season loan, looked sharp from the start and passed the ball with real intent. However, he had to watch his team fall to a defeat at home.
Although, Ceballos still has a couple of pre-season matches to prepare for the upcoming season.
Arsenal begin their Premier League camapign against Newcastle on August 10th.
