League Two outfit Colchester United have been handed a dream draw as they’ll face Manchester United at the Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
The lowest-ranked team, Colchester, are running high on confidence after knocking out Tottenham Hotspur in the third round.
United and Colchester have only met twice before and the former won both the games against the minnows.
The Red Devils won 1-0 in the FA Cup fifth round in 1978-79, followed by a 2-0 success in the League Cup third round in 1983-84.
Colchester United defeated fellow fourth division side Crawley Town in the fourth round to set up a last-eight tie at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
Chairman of Colchester expressed his delight at being drawn against Manchester United. “You come into football for days like this,” said Colchester’s chairman.
He added that everyone at the club will enjoy every minute of the tie.
Manchester City will travel to face third-tier Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.
Everton hosts fellow Premier League side Leicester City while Liverpool will be at Aston Villa, who returned to the Premier League after 3 seasons.
However, The Reds are due to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup. Liverpool will be in Qatar for the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup on December 18.
After beating Arsenal on penalties, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp threatened to call a halt to his side’s participation the League Cup.
Carabao Cup (EFL) organisers said in a statement that they’re taking to Liverpool about an alternative date.
Liverpool’s trip to Villa Park will be shifted to another date.
