Imran Tahir and Ravindra Jadeja completely dominated Delhi Capitals’s batting as Chennai Super Kings won by 80 runs.

Winning the toss, the visiting skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to field first.

On a comfortable batting pitch, Chennai Super Kings started slow and Shane Watson was dismissed for a duck after wasting 9 balls.

Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina built an 83-run partnership stabilizing the home side’s innings.

du Plessis scored 39 runs off 41 balls smashing a couple of boundaries and as many maximums.

Raina got in some fine form as he scored 59 runs off 37 balls hitting eight boundaries and a solitary maximum.

Ravindra Jadeja fired 25 runs from his bat playing just 10 balls in the course to do so. The spin bowling all-rounder smashed two fours and two sixes in his short stay at the crease.

MS Dhoni remained unbeaten till the end scoring 44 runs from 22 balls hitting four boundaries and three maximums, two of those coming off the last two balls.

Chasing 180, Prithvi Shaw departed early after hitting a boundary as Suresh Raina caught his shot at short point.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer gave life to the Delhi innings as the duo scored 48 runs off 28 balls.

Dhawan scored 19 runs off 13 balls hitting a boundary and a maximum before getting clean bowled off a Harbhajan Singh flipper.

Rishabh Pant, Colin Ingram, Axar Patel, Sherfane Rutherford, and Chris Morris failed to get their scores in double figures as Shreyas Iyer was stranded at one end.

Shreyas Iyer was the lone shining star of Delhi Capitals’ batting line-up as he scored 44 runs off 31 balls before getting brilliantly stumped by Dhoni.

The Delhi skipper scored four boundaries and a solitary maximum before getting out.

Imran Tahir took four wickets not even completing his 4-over spell while Jadeja dismissed three wickets bowling only three overs.

In the battle of the top two teams in IPL 2019, Chennai Super Kings came out on top exposing Delhi’s lack of experience in big games.
