The Australian openers, Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch put on a splendid show as their opening stand of 193 runs helped the Kangaroos post a total of 313 runs on the scoreboard.
For the 3rd One-Day International match of the 5-match series, the Indian team went for an unchanged side that beat Australia in the previous two matches. On the other hand, Australia had to make a forced changed as Nathan Coulter-Nile has returned home for the birth of his child and has been replaced by Jhye Richardson.
The Indian skipper won the toss and chose to field first on a dry pitch with a very fast outfield showing signs of a possible run-fest.
In the 7th over, Khawaja was dropped at 17 when he went for a reverse-sweep off a Ravindra Jadeja delivery but Shikhar Dhawan failed to grab the easy opportunity at backward point. The missed chance came back to hurt the hosts as the 32-year old went on to score his maiden century in the 50-over format at the international level.
Both the openers went on to score 90+ scores as they put together a 193-run stand for the first wicket. The partnership was the biggest stand put together by the Australians in the ODI format since the start of 2018. Also, it was the highest partnership for any wicket at the JSCA stadium in the ODI format.
Kuldeep Yadav stopped the partnership from reaching the double century mark as his flighted delivery caught Finch leg before wicket at the score of 93. The left-arm spinner was the star of the bowling attack as he took three wickets
Md Shami removed Khawaja with a slower ball as the opener went back to the stands after putting 104 runs on the board against his name.
Glen Maxwell came in and helped his side reach 300+ with a quick-fire innings of 47 runs from 31 balls before getting run out.
The Indians bowlers did well to restrict the Australians to 313 with economical bowling in the death overs.
