Centurion Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul inspired India to 7-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at Headingley.

Batting first, Sri Lanka had a shaky start as they were 55/4 at a stage before Angelo Matthews and Lahiru Thirimanne added 124 and Matthews went on to smash an impressive ton, as SrI Lanka went on to put a defendable target of 265.

However, India had no trouble to dispatch the Lankan Lions, as tons from Rohit Sharma and  KL Rahul inspired India to an emphatic 7-wickets victory.

Rohit Sharma was awarded Man of the Match for his 5th century of the the tournament. Sharma also overtook Shakib Al Hasan as the leading scorer in the this World Cup.

Rohit Sharma, Man of the Match:

Not really (thought about scoring five hundreds). Like I have been talking about, going out there and do my job. Not thinking about all these kind of milestones. I know if I play well all these things will happen along the way. My job is to keep my head straight and get my team to the finishing line.

The shot selection becomes important once I am in. I try and calculate how I want to go forward based on that. There has to be some discipline in your batting and I have learned that from my past.

What has happened has happened, every day is a new day in cricket. I come out thinking I have not played any ODIs or scored any hundreds. That is the challenge as a sportsperson. He has been a champion bowler for Sri Lanka and then for Mumbai Indians.

He has shown it over the years how the teams rely on him. I have seen him in close quarters and the cricket world will miss him. As a team we are not thinking about that. We have had a great victory today and we want to celebrate that.

Having already qualified for the World Cup semi-finals, India was asked to bowl first by Sri Lanka in Leeds.

India had made two alterations for their last pool game, bringing in Jadeja and Kuldeep, who replace, Shami and Chahal.

India is now sitting on top of the WC tables, with Australia currently playing South Africa at Old Trafford. The Aussies have been asked to chase 326. If Australia lose, India will face New Zealand in semi-final 1 on tuesday.

However, if Australia defeat South Africa, India will meet hosts England in semi-final 2 on Thursday.

That’s it from us.
