Novak Djokovic lost to Phillip Kohlschreiber in the third round of Indian Wells Open while Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have advanced to the round of 16.

Djokovic lost 6-4, 6-4 to the unseeded German after the match was postponed due to bad weather conditions.

The five-time champion of the ongoing tournament felt that he should have played better despite the bad weather conditions.

Djokovic said” I liked my chances more at night against Kohlschreiber. Completely different conditions today, ball bounces much higher.”

“Obviously he uses his spin very well. I wasn’t playing well. One of those days,” added the World No.1 player.

The Serbian continued “I congratulate him for playing tactically really well and getting me out of my comfort zone, he deserved to win.”

Men’s World No.6 Kei Nishikori and World No.10 Marin Cilic were the other big name casualties of the third round.

World No.2 Rafael Nadal defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-1 in a 75-minute match to ease into the next round.

“I think I played a very solid match. I did a lot of things well,” Nadal said after the match.

Roger Federer defeated fellow Swiss player Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 6-4 to set up a round of 16 tie with Kyle Edmund.

Women’s top two seeds Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep also crashed out in the third round paving way for an interesting further rounds.

Osaka lost 6-3, 6-1 to Belinda Bencic while Halep lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to Marketa Vondrousova. Venus Williams went through to the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Mona Barthel.
