Royal Challengers Bangalore have signed fast bowler Dale Steyn to replace the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile for the remaining matches of IPL 2019.
Bangalore have signed the veteran South African to replace Coulter-Nile who is unavailable for this season’s IPL.
The Australian quickster was earlier unavailable as he was in Australia’s squad against Pakistan. While the series ended on March 29 and fellow Australian Marcus Stoinis returned to the Bangalore squad, the fast bowling all-rounder wasn’t cleared by Cricket Australia to take part in the IPL.
Coulter-Nile was picked by RCB in last year’s auction and missed the entire season due to injury and again, Cricket Australia have deemed to protect the injury-prone all-rounder from playing in the IPL with the ICC World Cup just around the corner.
With the Australian unavailable, Bangalore tried Colin de Grandhomme and Tim Southee as their preferred overseas bowler but both the players failed to impress as the side has now signed Dale Steyn.
The South African fast bowler would be expected to spearhead a poor-performing RCB bowling attack as the side has lost all of their six matches this season and are placed last in the points table.
Steyn last played in the Indian Premier League for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and will be making an appearance in the cash-rich league almost after three years.
Dale Steyn has earlier represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first three seasons of IPL picking 27 wickets in 28 matches.
Steyn is expected to make his IPL return against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19.
