Chris Gayle played an unbeaten innings of 99 runs off 64 balls helping Kings XI Punjab put 173 on the board but missed out on his century.

Winning the toss, the visiting skipper Virat Kohli asked the Kings XI Punjab to bat first.

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle gave a good start to the Punjab side scoring 60 runs in the first six overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal tricked the Karnataka batsman with a leg-break and Parthiv Patel reacted well to stump the batsman. Rahul returned to the pavilion after scoring 18 runs off 15 balls.

Mayank Agarwal scored 15 runs off 9 balls before Chahal sent him back to the pavilion. Agarwal scored a boundary and a six before getting out.

Sarfaraz Khan too scored 15 runs before Mohammed Siraj got his wicket.

Mandeep Singh’s catch was dropped by the Bangalore skipper Kohli and he remained unbeaten till the end alongside Gayle scoring 18 runs off 16 balls.

Chris Gayle was the star for Punjab as he scored 99 runs off 64 balls scoring 10 boundaries and 5 maximums in his innings.

Moeen Ali was the pick of the bowlers for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as he picked up one wicket and conceded only 19 runs in his four over spell.

Chahal ended with 2 wickets but conceded 33 runs as he completed his quota of four overs.

Chasing 174, Bangalore got off to a blistering start as they raced to 36 runs by the end of the third over.

Parthiv Patel was sent back to the pavilion by Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin at a score of 19 runs off just 9 balls. Patel scored four boundaries in his short stay at the crease.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have continued the run-flow in the absence of Patel as RCB looks to be heading towards their first win of the season.
