MS Dhoni will be deployed in the Kashmir Valley taking the duties of patrolling and guarding alongside the troops from July 31 to August 15.
MS Dhoni, as part of Victor force, will be proceeding with the 106 TA Battalion (Para) on the cricketer’s request. Dhoni had taken a two-month sabbatical from cricket to serve in the regiment.
MS Dhoni, India’s most successful captain was honored with the lieutenant colonel rank in 2011, in the Territorial Army (TA) unit of the parachute Regiment. He also underwent training to serve his brief tenure.
MS Dhoni became a qualified trooper around 4 years ago after successfully completing five parachute jumps from the Agra training camp. He spent a month at the Army lodging in Agra and was given training in weapons firing too.
Former Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday informed BCCI that he will be “unavailable” for India’s tour of West Indies.
Dhoni’s announcement to serve in the army came at a time when there were high speculations about his retirement from international cricket, soon after India lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup.
However, BCCI maintains that MS Dhoni is not hanging his boots yet and that he is expected to turn up for India in 2020.
MS Dhoni and wife Sakshi were in the news after the Supreme Court-appointed forensic auditors in the Amrapali case have noticed that the realtor had entered into sham agreements with two companies allegedly associated with cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Dhoni.
