Juventus’ forward Cristiano Ronaldo, on Wednesday, admitted that his ‘healthy rivalry’ with Lionel Messi ‘made me a better player.”

The Portuguese international said that he enjoys his rivalry with the Argentine Maestro, has helped both individuals to flourish.

“I have no doubt that Messi has made me a better player and vice-versa. When I am winning trophies it must sting him and it’s the same for me when he wins,” TVI Portugal quoted Ronaldo as saying.

However, he admitted that the pair have never socialized. Although, he did say that that the pair has mutual respect for each other.

“I really admire the career he has had and from his side, he has already talked of the disappointment when I left Spain because it was a rivalry that he appreciated,” he said.

Ronaldo, however, said that he wouldn’t mind having dinner a chat with Messi.

The 34-year-old said that the rivalry is good but not unique. He insisted that it’s just like any other sporting rivalries in the past.

The Juventus star also spoke about the bright future of Portuguese football. He said that there are players like Joao Cancelo and Bruno Fernandes, who is linked with a move to his former teams, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The Portuguese skipper said Fernandes is extremely talented and is ready to take on the responsibility at a big club. He said that talent-wise, this is the best generation. However, he said that the players have to recognise their potentials.

Moreover, he added that atmosphere in the National team dressing room is spectacular for the past 2-3 years.

“The most responsible for this is Fernando Santos and the president of the FPF.”

The Selecao, in 2016, lifted it’s first UEFA EURO title under the leadership of Cristiano Ronaldo. Also, Earlier this year, Fernando Santos’ men lifted the inaugural UEFA Nations League title.
