Netherlands have announced the final 23-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League finals.
Davy Klassen and Wout Weghorst failed to make it to Ronald Koeman’s final squad while Kevin Strootman managed to retain his position in the squad.
The Dutch duo were crucial in Bundesliga club VFL Wolfsburg bagging a UEFA Europa League spot as Klassen contributed with 5 goals and 4 assists while Weghorst scored 17 goals and assisted 7 more in the 2018-19 season.
Jasper Cillessen will be the first choice goalkeeper for Orange with Marco Bizot and Keneth Vermeer providing back-up for the Barcelona keeper.
Kenny Tete’s injury will allow Denzel Dumfries and Hans Hateboer to compete for the right back spot.
Mathias de Ligt and Virgil van Dijk will be partnering each other in the centre of the defense with Nathan Ake and Stefan de Vrij also available.
Daley Blind is likely to take the left back position with Patrick van Aanholt currently a second choice.
A midfield trio of Frenkie de Jong, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Marten de Roon will envy many rival teams. Donny van de Beek, Davy Propper, Tonny Vilhena, and the veteran Kevin Strootman will also be vying for a spot in the midfield.
The omission of Weghorst makes the forward line a shaky one with Luuk de Jong, Memphis Depay, Quincy Promes, and Ryan Babel sharing the responsibility for scoring the goals.
