LaLiga leaders Real Madrid on Wednesday thrashed Second Divison side, Real Zaragoza, 4-0 here at the Estadio La Romareda to reach the quarter-finals of the Spanish Cup.

Raphael Varane, Lucas Vazquez, Vinivius Jr and Karim Benzema netted for Los Blancos to round-off an emphatic warm-up, ahead of the derby against Atletico Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Madrid and Zaragoza made eight changes each from their wins over Valladolid and Numancia, respectively, last week.

Areola started in goal for Los Blancos, replacing the in-form Courtois, who will be starting against his former side Atletico on Saturday. But, the Frenchmen on-loan from PSG, once again showed that he can be easily relied-on in big games.

Real Madrid, who last won the Spanish Cup back in 2014, lead 2-0 at the break, through Varane’s tap in the sixth minute, followed by Lucas Vazquez’s strike, just after the half-hour mark.

In the second half, Mallorca had chances of their own but Areola was up to the mark, denying Shinji Kagawa from close range.

Moments after getting subbed off, Vinicius Jr made it 3-0 by dinking the ball over Zaragoza’s shot-stopper Alvaro Lopez, following James Rodriguez’s perfectly-timed through ball.

Karim Benzema then came off the bench to round-off a comfortable-evening, tapping in from close range, after he was picked up at the back post by Dani Carvajal.

Real Madrid will now take on Atletico Madrid in LaLiga on Saturday.
