Chelsea manager Frank Lampard on Sunday said the youngster Tariq Lamptey is in talks with the club over a contract extension.
“We’ll see. He’s talking with the club and hopefully, he feels a bit of love from today as we have parachuted him in,” Chelsea TV quoted Lampard as saying.
He was actually on his Christmas break when we called him in yesterday. He trained and then played,” he added.
On Sunday, Tariq Lamptey came off the bench to make his first-team debut during the side’s 2-1 win over London rivals Arsenal at Emirates.
“I’d seen him when I was doing my coaching badges and you do a lot of hours with the academy and youth team. I saw him train a lot and I know he has a different dimension as a right-sided wing-back,” Lampard further added.
The 19-year-old has been at Chelsea since he was 6 years old, having progressed through their academy and was a key member of the U-23s this season.
Lamptey’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season. He has also represented England’s U-18, U-19 and U-20 teams.
For his performance against Arsenal, The young full-back has received a lot of praise from fans and pundits.
Chelsea will now take on face Brighton in the Premier League on January 1.
