Siddharth Desai became the second most expensive buy in Pro Kabaddi League auction history as he was bought by the Telugu Titans for a massive price of Rs. 1.45 crore.
The raider who turned out for U Mumba in the last season of Pro Kabaddi League was not retained by the Mumbai-based franchise. The move came as a shock to many after Desai won the ‘best debutant’ award in the last season.
Many franchises had earmarked Desai as the perfect signing with Jaipur Pink Panthers owner Abhishek Bachchan heaping praise on the young man. The Bollywood superstar said “Any team would be foolish to not go for Siddharth Desai. He is fit, the league has provided us medical reports. He had insane stats last season, he’s a monster on the mat and off the mat he is a lovely person.”
“U Mumba would be foolish not to retain him. You bid for the temperament, not just the talent. The whole package. That’s why I talk about Sid Desai, he has a down to earth attitude,” he added.
The 27-year old’s importance was seen when Telugu Titans straightaway bid Rs. 1 crore for him even though his base price was just Rs. 30 Lakhs.
Telugu Titans faced some resistance from Tamil Thailavas who was also adamant on buying Desai but the Titans won the bid in the end buying the raider for a massive price of 1.45 crore rupees.
Elsewhere, Nitin Tomar also became a crorepati as he was bought for Rs. 1.20 crore by the Puneri Paltan.
After Tamil Thailavas missed out on Desai, they bid for Rahul Chaudhari and successfully bought him for Rs. 93 Lakhs.
Manu Goyat who still holds the record for the most expensive buy in PKL history at Rs. 1.51 crore rupees was bought for Rs. 93 Lakhs by UP Yoddha.
U Mumba bagged the prolific Sandeep Narwal for Rs. 89 Lakhs.
