Steve Smith has superseded Virat Kohli to take the top spot in the latest ICC Test Batsmen rankings released on Tuesday.
Smith after serving a year of ban, made a comeback and scored 144 and 142 in the First Ashes Test. He also aggregated 92 in Australia’s first inning of the second Test but missed the second Innings to due to a concussion.
Virat Kohli is yet to score a Test Hundred in 2019 and scored just 136 runs during the two Tests.
Since 2015, Smith was on top of the ICC Test batsmen rankings, but his one-year ban saw him slip behind Virat Kohli.
Steve Smith leads Virat Kohli by 1 point and will have chances to increase that lead when Australia take on England in the 4th and the 5th Ashes Test.
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane moved inside the Top 10 of the ICC Test batsmen rankings. Ajinkya took the 7th spot, after scoring a half-century against West Indies.
Indian all-rounder Hanuma Vihari rose to the 30th spot despite playing just 6 times. Virat Kohli described Vihari as the ”Find of the series” following his exploits in the second Test.
Team India, after clinching the Test series 2-0, moved top of the ICC Test Championship tables with 120 points.
The Men in Blue will now host South Africa for a three-match T20 series, followed by a three-match Test series, which starts next month.
