Team India lost a crucial game against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday and their wait to confirm a semi-final spot extended. India made one alteration against England, with Rishabh Pant replacing the injured Vijay Shankar.
However, many doubted the injury as Shankar was seen carrying the drinks for the team during the match. Earlier today, he has been ruled out of the tournament due to the same injury now.
Shankar has scored only 58 runs from 3 matches with an average of 29. He only bowled against Pakistan and took 2 wickets, after Bhuvneshwar Kumar walked off due to a hamstring niggle.
With Shikhar Dhawan already been ruled out of the WC, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has missed three matches now due to a hamstring injury. There is still no update on his recovery either.
Vijay Shankar to be replaced by Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal, who replace domestic cricket for Karnataka, will replace Vijay Shankar in the squad. Mayank Agarwal scored a hundred on his test debut at MCG against Australia.
Interestingly, Mayank is an opener and it is extremely likely that he’ll open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul hasn’t done much replacing Shikhar Dhawan and was dismissed for a 9-ball duck against England.
India will play Bangladesh on Tuesday and Mayank might not get clearance to play against them. However, he’ll be surely in the squad for India’s final group game against Sri Lanka.
