The United Kingdom is witnessing a very unlikely shower spree, with heavy rainfall across the country. ICC Cricket World Cup that is being played currently in England and Wales has been affected by “extremely unseasonable” rainfall.
India’s game against New Zealand on Thursday was one of the four games that have been abandoned by rain. It’s about to get worse for cricketing fans, with the forecast suggesting that heavy showers are expected at the World Cup venues.
With World Cup venues like Manchester, Taunton, Chester Le Street, Southampton, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, Nottingham, and Cardiff expected to witness heavy rainfall for a couple of days at least.
According to the weather forecast, only London among the venues, likely not to see heavy rainfall.
On Sunday, Manchester’s Old Trafford is the venue for India’s match against Arch-rivals Pakistan. With heavy showers expected for the next 2 days in Greater Manchester, rain is likely to spoil the much anticipated ‘Mother of all Clashes’.
Indian and Pakistani fans across the globe will be gathered in huge numbers to support their teams despite the chances of a full 50-over game looking slim.
However, host England is currently playing West Indies in Southampton, despite the forecast suggesting cloud covers. So, let’s not lose hope and pray for the best.
The start could be delayed and we might see a 30-40 overs match and The Duckworth–Lewis method might play a crucial part in the outcome of the game.
Just like South Africa vs West Indies’ game in Southampton, the match might start but gets interrupted by adverse weather condition and might even get Abandoned (a point each for both teams).
The match might get called off without a single ball being played. Already, three games have experienced a similar fate.
Although, anything other than a 50-over match can jeopardize both teams chances of qualifying for the semi-finals. India is still undefeated, but their winning run was halted by a stalemate against New Zealand. Another abandonment might break India’s momentum and it could prove decisive during the latter stages of the tournament.
