Facebook-owned Instagram has rolled out in India a new feature called Instagram Music on Tuesday. The new feature allows users to tag song lyrics and snippets to their Instagram stories.

The new feature, which was launched in the US in June 2018 has now made its way to India. It will allow adding songs to Facebook profiles as well.

In a statement, Manish Chopra, Director and Head of Partnerships, Facebook India said:

“Facebook and music share something special — they both bring people together and enable personal expression. And that’s why music is important for us. With India’s strong music ecosystem, we’re thrilled to open up the ability for people in the country to include music in the moments they share on our platforms.”

Facebook has collaborated with the Indian music community to roll out these new features. Earlier this year, Facebook India partnered with the top music labels including T-Series, Zee Music Company and Yash Raj Films.

Paresh Rajawat, Head of Video and Music Products at Facebook said he is witnessing the fast adoption of Stories across the family of Facebook apps. He said the company is excited to provide people with new ways of expressing themselves and connect with friends.
