Google Pay, RBI, Delhi HC, authorization

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Google Digital Services Private Limited to file a reply on how the app is operating even after it is not being listed as an authorized operator as per list of the ‘Payment System Operators’.

Looking into the matter, a division bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani issued a notice to the RBI and Google on a PIL filed by Abhijit Mishra. The plea highlighted the fact that GPay has unmonitored and unauthorized access to the personal information such as Aadhar, PAN,  and transactions of the public by acting as a Payment and Settlement Systems.

The plea further claimed that it is the violation of the Payments and Settlements Act as it has no valid authorization from the central bank of the country to carry out such functions.

Google Pay and RBI has not issued any statement on the matter till now.
