Amazon Alexa, known simply as Alexa, is a virtual assistant developed by Amazon, first used in the Amazon Echo and the Amazon Echo Dot smart speakers developed by Amazon Lab126.
Alexa is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information, such as news.
Alexa can control several smart devices using itself as a home automation system.
Until now, users were able to ask Alexa to play music, but not podcasts.
Apple Podcasts and Spotify podcasts, for both free and premium users, are now available on Amazon Echo speakers and other Alexa-enabled devices, one can play podcasts of their choice.
According to the official blog, the feature is currently live for Amazon Alexa users in the US.
To enable the feature through Spotify, users can set Spotify as their default podcast and music provider in the Alexa settings. Then, they can simply say “Alexa” followed by the command with the podcast name on Spotify for a hand-free listening experience.
Through Alexa, users can also request specific podcast, restart an episode, request the latest episode, and navigate by time frame.
