On Wednesday night, a private bus collided into a stationary truck in Firozabad on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, killing 14 and severely injuring 31 people in the accident.
The truck driver was declared spot dead.
The injured commuters were promptly moved to the nearby Saifai PGI for treatment. They have kept them under acute observation in the ICU.
The tragic incident took place late at night around 10:30 p.m. when the bus carrying around 50 passengers crashed into a standby truck. The truck driver was replacing the punctured tires at the time of the accident. It was near Milestone Number 71.
Six people are in severe condition.
The Emergency ward doctor, Dr. Vishwa Deepak said, “At least 31 people were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment here. Thirteen people were brought dead.”
Among the dead, two people are still unidentified. Others were identified as Mukesh Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Kalamuddin, Bhagwan Chaudhary, Harindra Paswan, Bhoora (the truck driver), Chandan Mahto, Nageshwar Shah, Gulshan Kumar, Anil Shah, Rakesh Kumar Chandhan.
Rajesh Kumar Superintendent of Police (Rural) said the accident took place near Nagla Khangar Police Station area of Firozabad. “The sleeper bus was going from Delhi to Motihari (Bihar). The double-decker bus hit the container truck from behind,” he added.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police to supervise the relief work.
According to a statement issued by the Lucknow government, he has also instructed to provide proper treatment to the injured.
