Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan will be awarded with prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest award in cinema.
The announcement was made by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday.
“The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him,” the minister tweeted.
After several Bollywood celebrities and citizens started congratulating the legendary actor for the award, the actor also took to Twitter to express gratitude.
“There is a paucity of words searching a response .. for the generosity of words that pour in ..I am but deeply grateful and most humbled .. my sincerest gratitude …” the veteran actor tweeted.

Born in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad to renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Big B has acted for around five decades.
The actor made his debut with “Saat Hindustani” in 1969 and has stayed at the top, surprising his fans globally with memorable performances film after film.
Last seen onscreen in Shah Rukh Khan Production “Badla”, he currently hosts popular TV show, Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony Television.
The legendary actor has won several awards for his contribution to the Hindi cinema. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and most recently the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
Amitabh has also won in the Best Actor category for his performance in films like Agneepath, Black, Paa and Piku.
He has also won 15 Filmfare Awards and five IIFA Awards till date.
With his splendid performances in “Sholay” and “Deewar”, Amitabh made his persona of ‘Angry Young Man.’
He has acted in some major hits like “Namak Haram”, “Natwarlal”, “Lawaaris”, “Parvarish”, “Muqaddar Ka Sikandar”, “Trishul” and “Kaala Patthar”.
However, he suffered a near-fatal accident on the sets of ‘Coolie’ in 1983 that affected his filmy career in many ways. The actor once even called his recovery a “second birth”.

“I’m the most fortunate one who got to work with the living legend. Dear @SrBachchan sir, heartiest congratulations for the #DadaSahebPhalkeAward,” actor Ayushmann Khurrana tweeted.
Politicians like M K Stalin, Smriti Irani and Devendra Fadnavis have also wished the actor, while famous sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik did something special again.
