After the gruesome murder and gangrape of the veterinarian in Telangana, another young woman was gang-raped in a government quarter near Jhadeshwari Temple in Puri, Odisha on December 2.
One of the rapists is an ex-police constable who along with his mates raped her one by one, the girl reported at the Kumbharapada Police Station.
When the woman was waiting for her bus, one of the rapists, offered her lift claiming that he was in the police force. On the pretext of dropping her home, the police officer took the girl to Puri district and gang-raped her.
The woman was waiting for a bus near Nimapara terminal to go to her native village in Kakatpur, Puri district, when four persons, one of them claiming to be a cop, offered her help, she reported at the station.
“I live in Bhubaneswar, I was returning to my village from Bhubaneswar on a bus. I got down from the bus at Nimapara to have food and missed the bus. Later, when I was standing at the Nimapara bus terminal, a person introduced himself as a policeman by showing his identity card and offered help. When I denied, he along with three others forcibly dragged me into the car and took me to the government quarters in Puri,” said the survivor in her complaint.
The woman managed to retrieve the identity card of one the rapists from his wallet, while he was raping her which helped the police identify the rapist. The card belonged to a police constable identified as Jitendra Sethi, who reportedly was dismissed from duty a few days ago for misconduct.
“While two persons locked the quarters’ door from outside, two others raped me. After drinking, when they fell asleep I called a person through the window and managed to escape from the spot with the wallet of one of the accused, which contained a police identity card” added the survivor.
The girl handed over the documents to the police after lodging a complaint at the police station.
