On day two of Trump’s India visit, bilateral talks were held at the Hyderabad House. A joint statement was issued by the leaders after the discussion concluded.

Trump announced that India will be purchasing more than $3 billion of advanced military equipment from the US. Both the leaders decided to expand the India-US global partnership by signing a defense deal a day after showering each other with praises at the Namaste Trump event.

In his address at the Namaste Trump event organized at the Motera Stadium on Monday, Trump had hinted towards a significant defense deal between India and the US.

While talking about a new mechanism to deal with serious problems like narco-terrorism and drug trafficking, PM Modi said, “President Trump has prioritized the fight against the drugs and Opioid crisis. Today we have also agreed on a new mechanism regarding serious problems like drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, and organized crime.”

Mentioning the protection of citizens from radical Islamic terrorism, US President Donald Trump said, “In this effort, the United States is also working productively with Pakistan to confront terrorists, who operate on its soil.”

In the joint statement issued after the bilateral talks, PM Modi said that strengthening defense ties is an important aspect of the India-US relationship. He also added that India is committed to fair and open trade. PM Modi revealed that negotiations on the trade deal will begin soon.

Trump also said that progress has been made on a comprehensive trade agreement. “I’m optimistic we can reach a deal that will be of great importance to both countries,” the US President said.

Apart from this, three MoUs were also signed:

1. MoU on Mental Health
2. Safety on medical drugs
3. Letter of Cooperation between IoC and Exxon

US President Donald Trump is expected to address another press conference at 5 pm.
