As per the media reports, around 4 people died and 50 others were injured during a gas explosion at the ground floor of the central paris shopping district on Saturday.
The incident happened amid the security lockdown in the French capital keeping in view the “yellow vest” protests happening in the city.
Interior Minister Christophe Castaner informed the media that two civilians and two firefighters had died after being victims to the deadly incident.
Castaner said, “As firemen were looking for a gas leak in the building, a dramatic explosion took place,”adding that one of the firemen had been buried under debris for several hours.
10 people got seriously injured while 37 others had lighter injuries, media reports suggested.
Amid this the yellow vest protesters have been protesting around the country.
“A this stage we can say it (the gas blast) is clearly an accident,” Paris prosecutor Remi Heitz told in a media interaction.
The blasts have destroyed the nearby bakeries and the stores and also the building that were meters away.
More than 200 firefighters have joined the rescue operations and two helicopters landed to evacuate victims. Ambulances struggled to access the blast area because of police barriers set up to help control the violence by yellow vest protesters.
“There was broken glass everywhere, storefronts were blown out and windows were shattered up to the third and fourth floors,” said 38-year-old David Bangura, a witness to the incident.
As I approached the scene, a woman was crying for help from the first floor of a building: “Help us, help us, we have a child”, he added.
