As per the media reports, US President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump is being considered as a replacement for the outgoing World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim. She will be competing for the post with Former UN Ambassador, Nikki Haley.
The announcement regarding the resignation was made on Monday and came as a sudden shock, leaving the seat vacant, three years before the scheduled appointment.
This development is of much importance, since the Trump administration has been always hostile of the institutions like World Bank.
Other possible American nominees to lead the bank include Treasury Under-Secretary for International Affairs David Malpass, USAID Director Mark Green, and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley said in a media interaction.
About the other prospective candidates for the position are: Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs David Malpass and Mark Green, head of the US Agency for International Development.
Ivanka has been promoting entrepreneurship by women in the Saudi based World Bank.
Expressing his happiness, Trump took to social media and tweeted:
“So nice, everyone wants Ivanka Trump to be the new United Nations Ambassador. She would be incredible, but I can already hear the chants of Nepotism! We have great people that want the job.”
A spokeswoman for the Treasury Department told the Financial Times the Department been sent “a significant number of recommendations for good candidates” and was “beginning the internal review process” to choose a candidate to put forth to the World Bank’s board, the report stated.
