Picking up the Bhartiya Janata Party’s election slogan ‘Modi hai to Mumkin hai’, US secretary of state Mike Pompeo on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the India Ideas Summit of US-India Business Council.

“…as Prime Minister Modi said in his latest campaign, he said ‘Modi hai to mumkin hai’, Modi makes it possible. I’m looking forward to exploring what’s possible between our people” Pompeo said.

“I’ll have the incredible privilege to meet again with Prime Minister Modi & my new counterpart to Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar, all heads of industry and other people. I’ll be in India for a bit” he added.

Pompeo in a series of tweets said: “The United States and India have a unique opportunity to move forward together — for the good of our peoples, the Indo-Pacific region, and the world. It was my pleasure join USIBC today to outline this opportunity as I head to India in a few weeks’ time.”

In return, Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar welcomed Mr Secretary and tweeted:

Pompeo will travel to India, Sri Lanka, Japan and South Korea from June 24 to 30. His four-nation is aimed at deepening US partnerships in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.

Last year, both the countries kicked off the ‘2+2 dialogue’ alongside the Department of Defence. The Quad Dialogue among India, the United States, Japan, and Australia was also reinvigorated last year.

Meanwhile, PM Modi is in Bishkek to attend the SCO summit and is expected to hold bilateral talks with China and Russia. He might also meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

These meetings come in the backdrop of deteriorating relationship between the United States on one side and Russia, China and Iran on the other.

Iran is heading towards a possible economic slowdown after US President Donald Trump broke the nuclear deal in 2018 and announced a series of blockade. India has been forced to cut down the oil imports from Tehran.

While China is already involved in a Trade War with the US.
